Reason: typos
I wouldent advise moving to Florida ... I know several people who did so and the majority either moved back to LI or were considering doing so within a few years. Apparently the cost of living and the taxation is just as high.

I moved to Florida, but came back strictly for work.
Things there were newer, more people my age were living more quality lives.
Also some urban-chic restaurants and hotels even in minor cities.
No state income tax either!
In any event a lot are moving to NC, SC, and FL.
NYS and LI Government needs to get their act together somehow... it's just not an appealing place to anyone other than those who were around it in the 1950s.

The better question is how many moved, migrated, immigrated to NY in the last 10 years.... N.Y.'s Overall population has grown during that time period. But since you asked we left for Midlothian,VA and have loved the whole overall experience. Everybody's situation is somewhat unique so you'll have some really good experiences and some bad, it's all how well you planned, prepared, etc and even that doesn't guarantee anything

I moved to Atlanta.. I miss NY desperatly, but do NOT miss paying $850/month for a basement studio apartment.. I do NOT miss digging my way out after it snows, scraping ice off of my car, and driving 10 mph to work praying the roads have been paved..I do NOT miss the high cost of food and car insurance. Things like that!! Those 'little' things that year after year make you INSANE!! I DO miss the food: delis, pizzerias, bakeries, diners. Good drivers!! Who drive the speed limit and actually indicate. The cops who don't pull you over for ridiculous things like a 'dangerous left turn', and other petty crap. And of course, the ocean.. I do miss the ocean. But, no place is perfect!

When I got out of college everyone was moving to FL and Atlanta, GA. Half the people I worked with had in for transfers to Atltanta. None of them ever moved back in the 10 years that I worked there.
I think right now VA, NC and even SC (there is a booming town in SC that is actually a suburb of Charlotte) are the places to go. I hear a lot of people are moving to Austin, TX....not necessarily from NY though.

Yes, I'm in the IT field and there are lots of IT jobs in Austin - I know people who have lived there and said it's "not as Texan" as the rest of the state ...
Lots of IT folks are finding work in Charlotte, and Raliegh/Durham area. A few years ago I read something that amazed me - the two biggest "migration to" states for New Yorkers were New Jersey and Connecticut (by virtue of their closeness I guess). Don't know if this is true anymore.
