Which is the most prestigious shore on Long Island, the North Shore or the South? I know the Hamptons is on the South Shore.

I'm guessing you'll get South Shore as the most common. However...the north shore in parts of Suffolk and most of Nassau is really spectacular. The mansions overlooking the sound in Belle Terre/Old Field are just awesome. North shore rich folks have been around a lot longer than Hamptons rich folks.

I'd say North Shore is more prestigious; especially in Nassau. Think of all the towns they have...Upper Brookville, Oyster Bay Cove and I know there are lots more. My husband has been in many different houses over there and he says he can't get over the huge houses and how much money everyone has. The North Shore money is older money...not new money. South Shore is nice, but I don't think it can compete with the North Shore homes, etc.. Just my opinion though.

The North Shore by a long shot, the legacy of JP Morgan and all those cats.

The South Shore is considered working/middle class...the kids on the North Shore refer to it as the "Sowth Shaw-u" in reference to the thicker NY accents of the people who live there.

Not that any of it means anything.

For the uber-rich, it's the north shore of Nassau County (Village of Kings Point, Village of Sands Point, Village of Lattingtown) and the north shore of the western part of Suffolk County (Village of Lloyd Harbor, Village of Belle Terre, Village of Old Field).

The north shore of Nassau has been known as the Gold Coast for almost a century so I would think that takes the most prestige title. The hamptons are impressive, but I think the North shore beats them

most of LI's old money is on the north shore. Only parts of the south shore that might qualify as "prestigious" would be the hamptons and pockets of the five towns area.

Although the Hamptons have some of(if not the) the most expensive RE in the world, theres really nothing else like it on the South Shore.

If have to say if I were to rank Island affleunce(with a few exceptions) it world be:
Gold Coast Nassau /Hamptons/North Shore Suffolk/South Shore Nassau/South Shore Suffolk/Mid West/Mid East

JMHO
