there's a reason the NFL network is available to so few people in the US. Cablevison is far from the only provider to have issues with the NFL's terms. the NFL insisted the channel go on a basic tier which would result in an extra charge to all subscribers (and huge dollars to the NFL). That's a little ridiculous for what amounts to 24 hours (8 games) of live programming a year.
Also, NFL keeps extending it's contract with DirectTV for Sunday Ticket without letting the cable companies bid on it (that's just a little bit fishy) while the other 3 major sports sell their packages via cable. This is a big part of why the cable companies told the NFL to take a hike...
the Dolans are never blameless but Time Warner was having a similar issue with Fox not that long ago. Bottom line: the system that delivers television content to consumers is ineffecient and essentially broken. Expect more of this going forward....
Perhaps the government can enact Television Reform?
Now that everything is in HD, can people use the old school antenna to receive local channels, or are we now chained to providers and their whims?

well a la carte subscriptions are the logical solution to all of this...unfortunately that scenario only benefits the consumer which means it's not happening any time soon.
Cable is killing them. The problem is that they have no creative content and their programming is still a relic of the past when the big three ruled.
ABC's only recourse instead of grinding out quality TV is to take more out of your pockets.
"Quality" tv is not the formula for Fox news success..lowest common denominator is more like it, kinda like the success of the Jonas brothers or Jackass. Nobody loses money underestimating the taste of the American public.

lol, ok that's your opinion and you know what they say about them.
fact is they are still the most watched news network in the country.

That why I have DirecTV and the NFL channel is worth it if you are a fan.

Cable bid and lost the NFL contact to DirecTV.
Pluse not tax (yet) on my sat. bill.
it's a little more complicated than that. NFL has extended the deal twice within the last 10+ years reportedly without giving the cable a companies a real shot at itm. People speculate that they do it to protect their ratings (i.e. tv contracts) with the networks...
Whatever the case may be, they're the only sports league to go exclusive with Direct TV in the US, a provider that reaches a LOT less people than the cable companies.
Glad I have a spare analog tv with a digital converter box.
