I've been looking for a contractor and went to check AL out, but they charge a membership fee whcih seemed kind of sketchy. Then again, ServiceMagic charges the contractors to be included in their searches, so who knows how reliable their ratings are (as a handful of consumer complaint sites have suggested). There doesn't seem to be a happy medium; I'm hoping a search of city-data will turn up some starting points.

I have used service magic as have a family member and friend and we were all happy with the contractors we picked. Service magic gives you typically 4 local contractors who will contact you. You pick one or none of the contractors if you like/dislike.
