you gotta kill the queen or they will never leave. You have to use something that the worker ants will bring back to the queen for her to eat. Boric acid mixed with sugar works (Commercially I think this is sold as "Terro". Sprays or powders wont do a thing unless you get to the queen.
Guys thanks for all the advice. I will try the Terro product first and see how that goes.
You can use mint tea bags crushed up around entrances and also basil. Chilli powder poured on their little hills also works. SAlt water solution works, too.
If they get inside, ants do not like cucumbers, so they will go away from that. I use the salt.
Boric acid mixed with water dries clear. Also you can try Orange Plus cleaner from Trader Joe's. The orange oil kills them.
