i had a quick question. i'm from the east coast, and have never been to any beaches in the west coast. i wanted to know if there were any margarita/pina colada shacks on the beach, like i see in the movies in hawaiian beaches.

hope i'm not being too ignorant, but any feed back is appreciated. thanks!

In a word, "Nope!" You'd have to risk your life and go down to Baja to find that. But there are restaurants that sell drinks on the beach or overlooking it.

It's against the law to consume alcoholic beverages at beaches. You can be served alcohol only at a restaurant or bar with a liquor license. Note that the beaches are public property and that's why you won't find any establishments with liquor licenses on the beach. You can find bars and restaurants overlooking the beach but you won't be able to take your drinks out onto the sand.

Go to Mexico. I recall doing exactly what you want at Puerto Vallarta and I loved it!

By the way, it's called a "palapa." I sure wish I was sitting on a warm beach sipping Margaritas right now!

Can you imagine what a palapa would look like in California? It would be required to have two restrooms with full handicap features, a wheelchair ramp (no matter that you seldom see wheelchairs on the sand), braille signage, and surgeon general warnings about the hazards of drinking alcohol if pregnant.

::::sigh:::: You forgot the calorie count for any food served, no trans fats and all warnings in about 17 different languages!

Takes all the fun out of being irresponsible. That's why I moved!
