Hi all! I'm an East Coaster new to the area trying to look for a cheap apartment.

My max is around $1200 for a 2 bedroom. I have one roommate out here with me now, the other will arrive in a couple months.

I've been checking out areas around North & West Hollywood, Glendale, and Burbank. I'm 22 and female, so safety is a big issue for me. I'm not concerned with nightlife so much as a nice, safe area to live in that's relatively close to where I'll be working.

I have no idea how the trains & buses work around here, so any suggestions and advice would be much appreciated. This site has been very helpful and friendly. Thanks in advance for your help!

I'm not sure that there ARE 2 bedroom apartments for $1200 & under in the areas you mentioned. We pay $1675 for our TINY 2 bedroom in Burbank.

Maybe in North Hollywood? I know there's train stop there.

The public transport isn't like how it is back east (Boston/NYC) where you can go pretty much anywhere. I guess it's possible to get around without a car... but I wouldn't want to. I guess it would depend on where you worked.

Where are you working? I lived in Hollywood without driving and found it very easy to get around. It all depends on where you're working, though (the areas you mention are all rather scattered, or at least feel more so in person than they do on the map, thanks in part to the geography of the area). Getting to Burbank from West Hollywood by public transportation, for example, is doable, but is kind of a hassle (considering the short distance, that is). Getting from West Hollywood to Glendale is pretty easy because of the bus routes; there's a direct Rapid bus that, depending on your location, brings you practically door to door. North Hollywood to Burbank would be pretty easy and direct. I'd start by concentrating on your work location, then check out bus routes from there. Some transfers are very easy and quick, while other routes don't go as often or are slower.

you're aiming too high I'm afraid. studios in west hollywood often go for more than 1200! and while glendale and burbank are cheaper, you still wont find a 2 br for 1200. maybe in the seedy part of north hollywood you'll get something for around that price
