You have to stop at El Tepeyac in East LA ... you can wear white and khaki to fit in with the cholos.
But seriously, awesome burritos.

king eddy and that area is pretty rough. that might have been a joke. since you are trying to get an authentic feel of LA streets (as portrayed in media?) maybe k.eddy will be a good look. or from there go a couple blocks to 310 east 6th street los angeles - Google Maps
and take a look. make sure to click on the "street view" feature of the map. fascinating!

It's moist dark meat that's similar to goat. For taste comparison, I like lamb, game and strongly flavored fish. And goat.

Why do you want to see Mexicans and Blacks? Just go to Spain and North Africa.

But Wil-shy-yur just sounds...so, SO much better. Wil-shurr sounds like you're drunk, like you can't even finish the word without sputtering out. I'm gonna keep saying it, and haters gonna hate. Wil-SHIRE forever!

I am a white woman and I have gone to restaurants in Watts and to the Watts towers... Got the tour. They also have a lovely gallery there. It was quiet and peaceful, and the towers were spectacular. I wouldn't wander around at night or something but you can visit the watts towers and actually get out of the car.

I have gone to meetings with community nonprofits in Compton and attended a workshop on adopting and fostering kids there at someone's home. People were warm and friendly.

I find that most people are rather paranoid about these places. When I lived in HP, people acted like I was risking my life or something. The neighbors were nice and very hospitable, and I was in the "bad" part of HP. Never really had a problem, except loud parties til 2 am and a lack of parking.
