Hey, wait a sec, here's a thought: how about the porn industry...just kidding! Yeah, it's late....

Although I once saw an ad back when I was 23 that read: "Bored? Need money? Try selling exotic lingerie!" My family and I had a good laugh over it! We still will joke about this..well, Katnip, are you bored? Need money?.....
I wouldn't mind him selling exotic sex toys if he had to, it's time for him to start making money. Try living off 1300-1400 disposable income for two people in LA! It's not fun.

Are there a lot of these porn shops that are hiring?

make friends .... sounds silly i know but in LA right now getting a job is alot easier if you know somebody. Im friends with three different hr employment coordinators in my field this isnt by mistake. Soo hard to walk into a place and just apply and get the job these days. Also be willing tomonths or leave the state and work for 6 or so and transfer back there are a number of companys that pay a LA liveable salary aka 20+ an hour with overtime if you look hard enough.

Don't take this the wrong way, because you sound like a good and caring brother, but he comes off as a total clueless guy. You're basically acting like his mom treating him as a 6 year old. I'm surprised you're not changing his diapers too.

So it seems to me like you're the guy who's doing the job hunt for him.

Where's personal responsibility/initiative?

He can have all the BA's from good universities in the world, but if he is as reliant on his brother to do something as basic as looking for a job, something's up. And those same traits probably come up during interviews(if he even gets to that stage).

Even if you find a job for him, it will be a bearhug. Because then you just reinforce his negative, lazy behaviour by implicitly validating his subconscious tactic of relying on you for key life decisions.

So what if something happens to you? Like, an accident, or you fall into love and move out of LA?

That guy needs to learn independence.

The guy doing the interview doesnt want to lose his job so its not likely that person is going to hire someone who appears smarter and more qualified than even HE is.

I haven't read this entire thread so I apologize if these suggestions have already been mentioned. With Christmas coming retail stores will be hiring temp help. After the first of the year, the professional tax people like H&R Block will be hiring temp tax preparers. Together that could get him through April.

What are these "high paid office jobs"?...it seems like if he did have a high paid office job he could buy a car. How about renting a cheap car until he gets his first paycheck? It seems crazy to take a crappy low paying job if you are able to get a high paying office job..

High paying office jobs come with less flexibility and more responsibility. He's the type that needs a part time job and ample time for school, internships and networking with professors.

why is it that the entry-level service jobs, customer-service jobs, in retail, fast-food, restaurant-type jobs, jobs that pay minimum-wage, why do they have the highest, most intense amount of competition in order to get hired?

Few can afford to go to college anymore. So most have to scrap over what pays the bills now.
