Ah yes, forgot about the 'duties' they have to fulfill: Making appearances at events to rub elbows (among other things) with the movers and shakers. A quintessential aspect of the L.A. entertainment business.

LA is filled with beautiful women who are mostly super tall but its weird how most of the guys are average or short. Can't tell you how many average or short height guys I've seen with these super talk women.

I am 6'9", so at least I have a shot at the tall women there.

The responses are kind of overwhelming. I want to go, but comfort in my lifestyle now is hard to give up.

I personally know someone in Chicago who had a six-figure salary at job he did not like who gave it all up with his wife's blessing to pursue a career in acting. He is now a producer for a major television show on cable making the same amount of money doing something he loves (I don't want to put out his personal details). If he can do it so can you, but It didn't happen for him over night so if you do do it be in it for the long haul. If your girlfriend is true to you then she'll support you 200%.

But do you really think you have a shot at becoming a successful actor? We're not trying to be mean, just trying to give you the facts.

Ask yourself which motivates you more. Does becoming an actor motivate you more? Or does your current life with a six figure salary? I greatly wanted to be an actor and or singer, but my love of meteorology is dragging me closer to becoming a meteorologist.

Think about this:Your dilemma is a very clear cut one. It's not like choosing between Austin or San Antonio, waffles or pancakes, or sex or no sex. It's a lot more like choosing between Kansas and the moon. And if coming out here for a few weeks or months kills your relationship, how strong is that relationship anyway? Hell it might even help. If it's true love, one that is strong enough to last forever, she'll understand that you are pursuing your dream and she'll love to hear the stories you tell to her on the phone and she might come visit you and even like it. The weather's not bad at all.

See? It's posts like yours that get these people all hyped and their gullible selves come out to LA believing that nonsense just like MILLIONS OF OTHERS BEFORE THEM.

MILLIONS OF OTHERS BEFORE HIM.

If you're going to always wonder "what if?"
Give it a try.

I was under the impression the OP could transfer his job over easily since he works from home and maintain the same salary? If do then what the hell is the problem? A girlfriend? So what? If she is true then she will accept your dreams and if they're realistic enough considering you will have a job in LA then there is no problem.

OP, you don't get it. The major obstacles in LA are not so much the competition or abundance of talent, it's the sheer number of people that clog the lines. What they all have in common though is that more than 90% are not rich and work part time jobs and cannot be at every event all the time. With your flexibility you already have a leg up. The cost of living and surviving I think is more of the reason people do not make it rather than their lack of talent or the stiff competition.

I cannot tell you the tons of people I've met here in LA that have had marginal success and are working actors, comedians and writers. A lot of them are mediocre at what they do too. Yet they keep getting gigs. Why? Because they stuck it out, were either rich enough to not work and network, audition, learn, work on their craft all day every day 24-7 OR they sacrificed good living for couch surfing, living off rammen noodles spending every penny earned at their 15 hour a week part time job doing the same thing as the rich guy I mentioned.

It's about the work ethic. It's about consistently applying every waking hour to getting a gig and networking.
