Heavy Rail, or a Light Rail/BRT Mix? Garcetti and Greuel Discuss Options for Sepulveda Pass | Streetsblog Los Angeles

The map on this article shows a HRT line from Sylmar to Expo / Westwood. I think this along with the Purple Line and Regional Connector would be a total game changer.
ballsy

other thing that's happening which gets a lot less press is union station getting run through track potentially allowing trains to come in from one end and then continue out the other at union station. this is a lot faster and allows for a lot more capacity than the current stub end tracks where trains have to come in and then back out and any arriving train has to wait for all that to happen first. it also means that metrolink can run straight through from one part of the metro to another and work as single lines intersecting and then passing union station rather than terminating there. if frequency could be upped significantly and a shared fare structure could be made, then those commuter rail lines might end up being a pretty essential backbone for the region.

Agreed. These plans involve said through-routing.

"Game changer" is often oversued. But not here.

God Speed, Eric Garcetti.

They are discussing a tunnel under the 405, and it's looking good(recent L.A. curbed article).

But the thing that I feel is complete bullsh* is that it's gonna take 15 years to get it started.. Honestly this should have been done 15 years AGO..
