If OP can live in DTLA. That would be the best option. I just don't know what $1600 can afford you in DTLA nowadays.

to the OP -

I moved to LA from Michigan a few months ago.

I first settled in West Hollywood.

Sunset Blvd. & Larrabee St. which is close to the beverly hills area.

absolutely loved the area.

if you can afford it, you should live in beverly hills. weho & hollywood to your right and westwood/century city to your left.

thats the best spot right there. trust me.

Koreatown is filthy and the parking is horrible. You'll regret moving there.

You could try the Valley, specifically Sherman Oaks and Studio City. You'll get more bang more you buck there and the walkability you're looking for along Ventura Blvd,

Things haven't changed that much in 8 years, where does your husband want to live? LA is vast and work is so spread or I think it is will be very hard to search for a specific job based on your bus access. Chances are ,when you find a job, it will require an long commute with public transportation and you'll need to move again. Go live at the beach for a year and get your feet wet, when you find a job, move again.

Which part of LA is your husband from?

Wrong on all levels. Those are two of the most expensive neighborhoods in the valley, and are easily less affordable than Ktown. Plus, they're rife with **** architecture and franchise businesses, which do not seem like things the OP values. If someone desires an urban experience, it is unlikely they would regret moving to koreatown. It has a walkability score of 90. Sherman Oaks and Studio City? 61.

The walkability scores of Studio City and Sherman Oaks are heavily weighed down by their residential hilly areas. He would be moving to the flats which are plenty walkable. But, the OP is more than welcome to move to Koreatown and walk to Tacos de Mexico.

the valley numbers are skewed because of the homes in the hills and north of the 101. if you live within a few blocks of ventura blvd anywhere west of van nuys blvd, it will be very walkable. as for franchise businesses, those exist all over LA, including Koreatown. nowhere is immune to this. the thing about the valley is that it is much more family friendly. you are much more likely to run into the bourgeois stroller set in the valley.

Koreatown is quite different from the valley especially studio city or sherman oaks .

The valley still gets pretty misrepresented . Recently especially in studio city sherman oaks a lot of places from over the hill have opened up or are opening up . It's definately not cheap though to live in those areas .

Crime is also a big difference between koreatown and studio city or sherman oaks .

Demographics will also be different of course .
