Hi all!

Been a member here for years under an old username and thought I should come here to see if you kind people could help.

My boyfriend is looking to write an article/piece about the 8 year anniversary of South Central Farms getting bulldozed and I could really use any help on finding the names of magazines that might be interested in publishing it. We've already got information for the big magazines like Earth First, Mother Jones, etc but he also thinks that smaller publications based near where it took place may also be interested.

Thank you so much!

Did you check with Los Angeles Magazine? Every issue has one or two articles covering stories of local interest.

There is a guide book of sorts, "A People's History of Los Angeles", that features locations of significant events in Progressive politics- Labor, LGBT, ethnic issues, etc. The book contains a piece on the South LA Garden, but it's a couple years old. Maybe the publisher would be interested in an expansion/update.

There are also the Weeklys, LA, OC, Pasadena, etc.

LA Weekly loves the controversial stuff.

Forgot to mention, local independent book stores may be of help. There are stores in Boyle Hts and Leimert Pk that emphasize social/ethnic issues. They may also host guest lecturers, if you're interested in doing a presentation.

Also, Skylight Books in Los Feliz carries a big selection of zines on all kinds of topics. Maybe you could scout them out, and ask the staff there for ideas.

Gurbie's probably thinking of Eso Won Books in Leimert Park, Libros Schmibros: Lending Library & Bookshop in Boyle Heights and Seite Books, also in Boyle Heights and was just profiled this weekend in the LA Times.

Los Angeles Wave is a venerable local newspaper covering primarily the South LA African-American & Latino community.

Margaret Prescod's Sojourner Truth program on Pacifica's KPFK 90.7 FM has covered the South Central Farm many times so you could contact her for ideas.

There are a bunch of free New Age and Organic lifestyle zines and papers that are published in the southland. They are often laid out on racks in front of health food stores, thrift shops and probably yoga studios.

Good luck.
