I agree that rap nowadays is just pathetic, but I wouldn't diss the entire genre. Back in the 90's, rap was more poetic (speaking of specific songs).

Rap isn't necessarily for uneducated people - there's a lot of rap with very intelligent lyrics, as hard as it is to believe for most Baby Boomers like myself - but L.A. rap is definitely for uneducated people and always has been - Cypress Hill was about as "intellectual" as L.A. rap ever got.

Kendrick Lamar is different in that he doesn't drink, do drugs or claim to be a gangsta. His songs document the "thug life" from the perspective of an observer.

Unfortunately the rest of L.A.'s rappers glorify the degenerate lifestyle of guns, weed and money which is keeping minority youth stupid...young girls dream of being like the strippers in the videos and the guys tattoo their faces like morons thereby preventing themselves from ever gaining employment.

God...Sometimes you just can't reason with people who don't know what they are talking about. Even If I gave you 20 examples of that not being entirely true you would still feel the same way you do now. I could also show you 20 examples of the Beatles or Pink Floyd dabbling in Acid & Weed yet nobody seems to mind. Nirvana had whole albums talking about their Heroin usage, suicidal thoughts, and how life is pointless but that isn't degenerate, and yet Kurt Cobain is a legend. Jimi Hendrix beat women but his rendition of "all along the watchtower" was great!
