I know this is a strange question, but I work for myself, and I am thinking about moving to the L.A. area (mostly for the great weather all year round!). I would like to find a safe town with good schools for when my two-year-old eventually starts school. Furthermore, my hobby is to play poker a few times a week (or even more often!), so I would ideally like to be within 10-15 minutes tops from the Commerce poker room (or Hawaiian Gardens or another one of the big popular rooms). It seems though that the big poker rooms are all in non-desirable areas, and I really don't want to drive 25+ minutes each way every time I want to get out (or even longer with L.A. traffic!). I have about 750K or so to spend on a house. I could go a little higher though if the town was absolutely perfect.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

hawaiian gardens is a bit run down, but pretty much all the areas surrounding that little city are nice and safe. i'm partial to long beach, but los alamitos, cypress and cerritos are also nice cities.

The city of Gardena has the Normandie Casino and the glittery Hustler Casino. It's adjacent to the city of Torrance which is safe, has a great school district and is close to the ocean for that great climate. Torrance is generally not considered a beach town although it has its own small beach. Multiple large malls for all your shopping needs. But, you'll be farther away from those other casinos.

750K is probably median-ish for Torrance. Probably depends heavily on location within Torrance -- closer to water and Palos Verdes gets much pricier.

PS: I've never set foot in any of these casinos so I'm assuming they have poker.

Best of luck
