Culver City to Pasadena on the Expo would take about 75mins... +/- 5 minutes... maybe.

About 35mins from CC to 7th/Metro, 10mins from 7th/Metro Union Station, and then 25-30mins to Pasadena.

Assuming the Pasadena job is near the rail line. Pasadena is a large city.

What about Beverly Hills? Both commutes are reverse, I've commuted from Weho to Pas and it look between 30-40 min. And I've commuted from Weho to Redondo (about an hour), but to Hawthorne it should be shorter. Don't know what your budget is though..

It does seem like this could be the best option....

An alternative is if the OP can afford South Pasadena and the OP's husband has a job walking distance from the Green Line in Hawthorne...but that option would still require multiple transfers.

Default Places to Live btw Pasadena & Hawthorne

Ali,
If you get the job in Pasadena and you feel that schools are a top priority I would suggest South Pasadena (this is a separate city from Pasadena). South Pasadena has an excellent school district, homes tend to be a little higher in South Pasadena vs Pasadena because of the school district. Both Pasadena and South Pasadena offer 6 total metro stations-1 in South Pas/5 in Pasadena. Great access to LAX: Take metro to Union Station and then air conditioned Fly Away bus to LAX. Company flying in can take Fly Away bus from LAX to Union Station and you can pick up there. Drive time from PASADENA-HAWTHORNE is on avg one hour. South Pasadena will cut your drive by 10 min.

Both Pasadena and South Pasadena are wonderful exciting cities: they offer families and singles a great life. Residents of Pasadena and South Pasadena are involved and truly care about his or her communities.

I think it is important to understand the logistics, that is IF you get the job in Pasadena you need to stay close to Pasadena otherwise when you get into your routine, job, dropping off kids, errands etc..time spent in a car just navigating around a city (any So Cal city) can eat up time.

Another option is Burbank. One of the most affordable cities with great school districts after San Marino & South Pasadena. Same drive time as Pasadena, on avg, 1 hour Burbank-Hawthorne. Burbank offers 2 metro links, Downtown and Burbank Airport. Drive time from Pasadena-Burbank is 20-30 minutes.

Finally, Altadena, Ca, directly north of Pasadena. Altadena is serviced by Los Angles County and part of the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD). In terms of property, you get a little more bang for your buck in Altadena vs Pasadena. 70 minute drive Altadena-Hawthorne. Hope this helps!
