Gotta love the internet where because you believe something must mean everyone else must the same way.

You have literally no idea who I am so how could you possibly know what my considerations are when choosing a place to live.

Something that's not Hollywood Hills, Beverly Hills, Bel Air or Venice and Manhattan Beach? I mean any middle class or poor neighborhood that's not so expensive with blue collar workers and not hipsters.
I am talking at least some 60-70% white or more? If not, what would be closest to my description?
No dude, there aren't and you should know better than to ask a question like that. If you're white you're either up here with us or down there with the rest (I'm german by the way). What you're looking for is what's known as "flexible rent". If you're willing to pay first/last/deposit and a move in fee you're in. If you sell drugs on the side, you're in. If you slob, you're in. You can "barter" for 1/3 of the rent if you pay your cards right.

I don't think these parts of LA (or at least LA county) were mentioned before -
Woodland Hills, West Hills, Agoura Hills, Calabasas

Not really middle class... at least what I think OP's idea of what middle class is. Too expensive.

La Crescenta-Montrose and NE SGV are the only areas I can think of that are close enough to OP's "not too expensive" what middle class criteria.

Woodland Hills and West Hills definitely have some not so expensive apartments. While Calabasas and Agoura Hills might be more expensive, they are definitely not the places for only rich and posh people.
Definitely (from my limited experience), not more expensive than Studio City or Encino.

Why would someone look for a middle class neighborhood to rent and not buy?

Middle class people usually don't buy in LA. Home ownership is closed to the middle class unless they inherit property. Thank you, Howard Jarvis.

Thank goodness I was able to buy something. My kid can have my house when my wife and I move on (or just move out of the country).

Worth $450k now... millions in a few decades.

Bellflower, CA experienced the worst white-flight in LA area that went from 60% White in 1990 census to 17% estimated today for 2015. So, Bellflower in 1990 was 2015 Glendora today.
