When I'm driving from OC to LA and HAVE to take the 5 I always wonder when and who dropped the ball on that fwy?? You cross the border line and instantly you lose lanes so it bottlenecks there's 5 foot tall weeds everywhere and the k rail looks like it's been there since the 50's!! Why is that fwy so ignored? The 405 looks fine... It just baffles me all that money going to the speed train to no where and the very busy congested awful 5 ..nothing

I can understand that because LA is a lot older then OC but there's no excuse for that fricken fwy. fwys should be a top priority not way down the list.

Yet LAPD just got 100 brand new BMWs for " non patrol use"
They spent $180 MILLION on one social services building in Van Nuys too
I'd rather seeing that money go to clean up Van Nuys versus just on one building

I believe there are over a 100 LAPD officers making over $150k and I think there was a dozen patrol officers who made over $200k in the last report. They certainly know how to spend money

They are and have been modernizing the 5 for a VERY long time.

Widening of 5 freeway in L.A. continues - The Orange County Register
Planning began all the way back in the year 2000.
Prior to that in the 1990's, that's when the OC freeway was widened. Orange County didn't always magically have 10 lane freeways.

For the longest time, up until the 70's 80's and 90's Orange County and South Orange County was the "Corona" of Los Angeles. It wasn't as built up, and there just wasn't that much traffic.
Ironically after the modernization of the OC part of the freeway, THAT is what created the bottleneck. It wasn't so bad 20 years ago, (and conversely that's exactly when they began to plan the modernization), but now it's horrible.
This has nothing to do with corruption (at least on the face of it) and absolutely nothing to do with hiring cops or cop cars.

Yeah it's gotten out of hand . The police unions are so strong and keep getting more and more , I get that police should be paid well but over 150k seems excessive .
It's not just the police though , it's across the board .
