Partially because that's where the money and, therefore, the political power is. The politically connected who will complain the loudest and be heard, will get their local freeway fixed while those who are not politically connected will be ignored. It's about political priorities.

Also, not all freeways improvements will be equally funded as Interstate 5 at that location crosses a Caltrans District boundary and a County boundary.

Lastly, there are right-of-way issues. There is (or was at the time) more open land available right-of-way acquisition along the I-5 corridor in Orange County, especially South County, than there is in the older, built-out areas that surround the I-5 corridor in southeast Metro LA.

Not only that freeway but the freeways in certain other counties.. that get special treatment...

I'd rather LA County pour money into speeding up the Purple Line than spending it on widening the 5. That stretch of the 5 is mostly used by commuters from Orange County. If they want it fixed up, they should be the ones paying for it.

Yes, and on a positive more needs to be done like the widening, expansion on 405 approaching 605 that is pretty impressive.

Money is tight, but with the correct priorities, key word priorities.....not magic bean trains to nowhere

I think starting pay for LAPD is approx 65k and understaffed with overtime I could see some approaching 85k, factor in seniority, rank.......150k is a big number

Maybe you should reconsider since more people from LA commute into OC for jobs than the reverse.

Did your wage go up? Orange County workers got a $7 billion pay raise in 2015 - The Orange County Register

And making more money in OC probably

Not really. It is pretty much a wash in terms of absolute numbers. However, as a percentage Orange County is sending a much higher percentage of its resident workforce to LA County (15%) than LA County is sending to Orange County (4%).

Regardless, Orange County people complaining to LA County residents about traffic is laughable. It was not too long ago when OC, the poster child for sprawl, was orange groves and open space.
