How is this zip code for a single 24 year old male? Found a real good deal in this zip code.

Was wondering about: traffic, weather, crime, and nightlife. I'm close to the 210 at Allen.

I work in Koreatown too btw and had an offer for another place in Silver Lake but that's a few hundred more a month and I didn't think it was worth it at this time. Would rather save since I just moved here.

91106 is a desirable zip code. We’re closing escrow on a house in the 91106 (south of Glenarm) on 7/8/16. Many (including me) advise staying south of Colorado, but I don’t think that’s necessary. There are some lovely areas northward.

As far as traffic, weather and crime go, you can find that stuff on Google. Personally, the only thing that bothers me about the SGV are the oppressive summers. Nightlife is fun, but it you’re into clubbing, Hollywood might be a better fit.

I’m incredibly picky when it comes to selecting a house, so I have A LOT of deal-breaker items on my list, but in the end, as long as you don’t need to drive through a junky area to get to a nice one, you should be in good shape. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the info. I was wanting to know the weather/crime/traffic difference between 91106 and Silver Lake. I should have spelled that out a little more. From my research, looks like where I'll be staying is safer, hotter, and has slightly better traffic (mainly on the surface streets....the 210 is a POS). Also, I would only be a few of blocks from the Allen Station on the Gold Line, which is nice. I'd use it some days going to work or on weekends.

The cons of Silver Lake for me were the amount of cool people that weren't cool, backing up on a street because it's so narrow and people are trying to get through both ways, etc. Pros are the central location and hills. Cons for 91106 are the heat and smog. Pros are that its quieter and feels more old school California.

Unless you're a hipster, Pasadena is a better area to live than silverlake.

Only caveat would be if you're working in Santa Monica or somewhere on the westside then I guess every mile closer makes a difference.

Pasadena is one of the safest/nicest city in LA in my opinion. I would say go for it and see if you like it. I know I would!

The commute from my job in Koreatown to the place in SL would be 20 minutes. It's 40-50 min to Pasadena but I would have the Metro option if I choose (which is always around 40 min). The shorter commute was a definite plus for SL.

I think I'm making my choice for Pasadena. Been thinking a couple of days now. Plus, I would guess city services are much better in smaller Pasadena than LA.

Drive time definitely does affect QOL. You're in your car 5 days a week, if you want to go to Silverlake/Pasadena ktown for dinner on the weekend you can always do that.

Honestly I would determine what commute is acceptable first and then pick a location based on that.

Maybe South Pas would be a good place to look if you like the Pasadena area but want to be closer to ktown. That would drop your commute down to 30+/- min and still be on the gold line. However, it would be an older demographic. Even in apartments they would probably skew to 30+ year olds vs Caltech and PCC students in the area you were looking at in Pasadena.
