I have dozens of the little flags in my closed, every holiday someone places them in front of our houses. They all have an attached business card with the name of the real estate agent or someone that wants to sell me something. Ya, it’s very patriotic.

I remember Bull O'Connor calling for law-and-order during the Civil Rights Era. Nixon took advantage of it for the "Southern Strategy" to get elected.
Perhaps the dogwhistles are causing the degradation of the older, bigoted set? That may explain the negative connotations when a dogwhistle is blown. "Make America Great Again" is a code word just like the un"Patriot Act".
