Anyone know what would be the approx cost to rent a small building where I can cook and bake?

Actually, I would love to start a bakery type business from my home. I unfortunately, can not find any info about whether this is possible and legal. I was wondering if you knew what the guidelines and regulations were and what kind of licensing I would need for such an business. Thanks so much for any help.

Must be reasonable rent, and in a fairly decent, safe area.

Is Craigs List a good place to look?

Thanks for any help/suggestions

Do you realize what your competition would be like? Bakeries and supermarkets can make 100 times more product for what you will spend on one cake. Their labor is really cheap. They buy in quantity.

Who would be your customers and target market? Do you have a business plan?

A bakery would be regulated by the Los Angeles County Health Department. For space, you might want to try the Recycler, as well.

Oh ma ga, LizzyNola, I'm consider a move to L.A. or San Diego next year, and am planning to do the same thing!! I can't believe you're on this forum! I used to be a baker for Whole Foods Market in Atlanta. I am now a nurse, but that's just to pay the bills until I get my baking business going. I want to start out of my home too, but didn't know if in L.A., you have to own a home or what. I would be renting, and I don't know if I could start a home baking business from a rental property. Plus, it's nice to have double ovens, right!?? I know that will be hard to find in an apartment, and I don't think I could afford to rent a house in L.A., that's another reason I'm considering San Diego, it might be cheaper to rent a house, or even a building for baking.

Although I don't want a retail business, I will still need a space after baking out of my home gets too overwhelming. Are you advertising? Do you have a business plan? Let me know what you find out. PM me.
