I live in Orange County and very rarely go to LA. It's only 40 miles away.

It isn't that I don't like LA, but there isn't much in LA that doesn't exist somewhere in OC. Lakers games are waayyy too expensive. I do like to park the car in Venice and walk the beach to Santa Monica, hang out for a while in the bar under the Santa Monica Pier then walk back.

I probably get out to Venice\Santa Monica less than you because who wants to fight it out on the 10 [btw, rent a bike & travel the strand sometimes - it is the most comfortable place in LA to exercise - maybe why so many gyms are located near the beach. I wish Interstate 5\Golden State freeway had as many lanes in LA county as it does in Orange county..

But I do live close to the Gold Line & take it into South Pasadena or Colorado Blvd for dinner. Or go the opposite & take in the Music center\Disney Hall or Staples\LA Live for only $1.35!

I disagree with others who praise LA in the 70's-90's [it was smoggier & nobody went downtown except when necessary - everything is better today!

I'm guessing you live in the hills of Glendale. Am I right?

Yes, actually in the hills near Pasadena but still in the city of Los Angeles.

Cool, thanks for sharing. I don't think most people even know your area exists - which probably makes it even better.

America's glory days are long gone, and L.A. being a more intense microcosm of the nation as a whole, the signs of decline are more intense in L.A.

I live near the hills (Mt Washington) as well. And yes, I agree that the smog is nowhere near as bad as it once was.
