Reverend Doctor King Jr street signs in Los Angeles read as both Martin Luther King Jr Bl, and just King Bl for the larger signage meant to be seen further away. However going with the councilman's proposal I never noticed the paralleling streets to Rodeo Rd, Washington Bl having a "George Washington Bl" sign or Jefferson Bl with a "Thomas Jefferson" sign.

About the only drawback that I can think of is that the street is almost entirely residential. I do wonder if Culver City would consider changing the name, it already does from Rodeo Road to a short Higuera Street when you cross that small bridge into their city limits

Is there any other reason for this besides the Democrats parting each others backs?

I'm not an Obama fan, but as long as it's Rodeo Road and not the Rodeo Drive, then I don't really care if the road is named after Obama.

The 10 freeway in SM is named for Rosa Parks -- don't know why that decision was made and I don't know anybody who says, "I'm going to take the Rosa Parks freeway."

"Obama! I like that," said 8-year-old Kory Gable. "Then there will be only one Rodeo which is Rodeo [Drive]."

From the same article
So the kid said it's a great idea because it "teaches you the presidents"

I guess as long as it's Democrat Presidents..
Of course L.A Times had to turn this into an Anti-Trump article.

"I think that's a great idea," agreed 10-year-old Golden Wilson. "Because it teaches you the presidents and it can teach you the streets and it'll be easier ..."
"What about Donald Trump Road?" Gable asked.
"No one wants a Donald Trump Road,” Wilson responded. “Jeez."

Donald Trump is an outlier. I'm sure there are many, many people who would be ok with Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Eisenhower and Reagan, but despise Donald Trump.
