True .

I had heard for years that places like Echo Park were being taken over by "white hipsters" but reality is it's still a majority hispanic area . The population of whites went up about 10%... over years and years .
That's what all the fuss was over ?

Now we are hearing the same thing about Boyle Heights and other areas like Inglewood and South LA

That whites are going to move in and take over and "ruin it" .

In terms of Inglewood it has actually been Hispanics that have "taken over "
Hispanics are now a majority in Inglewood .

White population there is only like 5 percent .. but of course we are already hearing that there are too many whites in the area and they are going to "take over"...

From Wikipedia:
"The 1990 census showed that Hispanics in Inglewood had increased by 134 percent since 1980, the largest jump in the South Bay. Economic factors apparently played a role in where new arrivals settled, said David Heer, a USC professor of sociology and associate director of the university's Population Research Laboratory. "Housing is generally less expensive here than elsewhere . . . and I would say that they receive a warmer welcome here," said Norm Cravens, assistant city manager in Inglewood, where the Anglo population dropped from nearly 21 percent in 1980 to 8.5 percent in 1990.[24]"

Yup

The title of this article is hilarious .. Hardly any whites or Asians= "Full diversity"

"According to the 2010 Census, African Americans comprise 43.9% of Inglewood’s population. The Inglewood City Council is 60% African American and 40% Latino.

The City’s leadership reflects its diverse neighborhoods. Famous African Americans from Inglewood include Tyra Banks, Lisa Leslie, Paul Pierce, and Omarion."

From the article:

"The Anglo population dropped from nearly 21 percent in 1980 to 8.5 percent in 1990."

I just love it when they use the blanket term "Anglo" in reference to Whites, even though there are many Whites who do not identify with being British yet in the mind of the author there's no diversity amongst European peoples. Talk about racism...

I was in Inglewood not long ago. It's definitely gotten nicer and it seems to have improved economically. There are few whites, though. And you are correct it is Latino majority now.

It magically remained diverse as it became more Hispanic all the while with hardly any whites, because, of course, diversity is code for non-white.

Another crazy article !
So when whites avoid living in an area like Inglewood they are racist .
But then if they move in to the area they are considered gentrifiers and colonizers and are blamed for pricing out minorities .. nice .

This mindset is nuts !

"Many affluent homebuyers have steered away from the city in the past. This is partly due to the media’s portrayal of Inglewood as crime-infested and gang-affiliated. Inglewood is thus perceived as unsafe. Because Inglewood is predominately black and latinx, these perceptions are inherently racist. The media fails to recognize the success of small black and latinx-owned businesses. It is easier for white America to perceive Inglewood as crime-ridden than to acknowledge its economic success. Gentrification thrives off internalized racism; regardless of the true economic class of marginalized communities, minorities stereotypically represent poverty."

It's more diverse now because it's not overwhelmingly black like it was.

Boyle Heights is diverse ..

"The diversity that exists in Boyle Heights today is exclusively Latino: Central American families living alongside Mexican immigrants and Mexican Americans."
