Why is this binary to these people - if it helps the white person, it is hurting the black person? Their presence seems to signify safety to all riders, except in this bizarro world.

Also, getting real tired of this attempt at normalizing anti-white racism. "White gentrifiers" used as some sort of slur, and nobody bats an eyelash.
If you want to see some disgusting comments look at this Root article
They picked up the "Compton is trendy " story .

But even though that article didn't mention white people moving in the commenters attacked "white people."

Comments like this :

"In regards to gentrification, I always felt like the White Walkers were/are moving into certain areas not because of the cost of living, but, because of this need to be colonizers the need to be the outlier in a homogeneous location. Here in NYC, there are plenty of locations where it’s predominantly-white/’spicy’ white and affordable. Yet, the White Walkers flock to communities that housed black/Latino populations. "

Yeah even if whites were moving into Compton it would be bad . But then imaging whites moving in and "ruining the neighborhood " makes things even crazier .

Scapegoating rears its ugly head .

Funny thing is when these communities get "gentrified", their crime rates go down and the local economy heats up.

The truth is "white gentrifiers" actually means "white people who earn enough money to pay for housing in a desirable area where poor people can't afford to live."

That's literally what they are talking about. Nevermind the asians who also buy up all the housing in those desirable neighborhoods. That's okay.
That's one definition, though I think most of the time the context is essentially "Oh, those dastardly white people with their jobs and their families, coming in to an area that was run down and riddled with crime and injecting it with money and lowering the crime rates because they have jobs. You blink and all of a sudden the bail bondsman is gone and replaced with a cupcake joint. There are flowers everywhere, the trash has been picked up, and they're remodeling all of the houses and making them more valuable. These worthless scum!".

Asians get a pass because they're POC's of convenience. Since they aren't rabidly vocal, whenever they get ignored when talking about "minorities" (which is 90% of the time, as they tend to harm the argument being made by the left about minority oppression), they allow it, and when it is convenient to invoke them they don't go out of their way to distance themselves. They're the Swiss Army Knife of POC's - there when you're making an argument they don't statistically harm or invalidate, quietly in your pocket when it's not good for your cause to pull them out.

And you know the area is really going downhill when you see small independent coffee shops opening up .

I mean that could of been a perfect location for a pawn shop or check cashing establishment!
Crazy part is one of the owners of the coffee shop is Latino and he got called a "coconut" . Brown on the outside white inside .
It's so twisted how these people think .

What's even crazier there is that the movement against the coffee shop was led by a white woman and composed predominately of people who don't live in the neighborhood, including kids from an expensive private high school in La Canada Flintridge who were encouraged to participate in the protests against the coffee shop by their school.
