"More temporary housing. More affordable and supportive housing. Take the lead on mental health and substance abuse treatment. More job training. Identify all available land. Cut red tape. More homelessness prevention. Fight for more federal and state money but do more with the dollars we have. Forge a city-county partnership. Appoint a homelessness chief.

All good. But the same song has been playing for at least 15 years in Los Angeles.

In the interest of the unhoused and the housed, 2022 must be the year we do better.

From every mayoral candidate, we need firm but humane, clearly stated goals and believable strategies for achieving them.

Don’t over-promise, don’t under-deliver.

And don’t tell us what we’ve already heard."

Default This woman went to Skid Row and filmed graffiti while talking to the locals

Some nice murals they have. A sad story about Darrell Fields, a homeless guy who was set on fire.

Thats cool. Some graffiti is nice to look at, some signals territory markers or pays respect for someone killing a rival gang member.

Doesn't look like that video showed much gang graffiti. Lots of nice murals and regular graffiti.

In Santa Monica; the "garages" are the parking structures owned by the city in downtown.

Quote:
Early Friday morning I met an unhoused person charging his phone on the 3rd level of Garage 4. [...]

His answers and information corroborate my other interviews with the homeless in our garages.

The following is information he volunteered (that we already know) - -

[...]

2) The Dumpster Room of Garage 6 is the destination of choice for gay sex

3) Wilshire Blvd, from the Promenade to 6th Street (at 7-11), and along Broadway, from 2nd to 5th Streets, is where female sex workers find most of their business.

[...]

5) Fentanyl is the drug of choice. It can be purchased within 10 minutes for between $2 and $10. There is no need to keep much on hand since it is so readily accessible

6) Meth is the second most popular drug, followed by weed. Some combine with a canister of nitrous oxide, which can lead to a deadly overdose

7) There are 'suppliers' who arrive nightly, then sell it to the homeless

8) Many of the homeless carry 6" knives and sticks for protection. Some (including the man I interviewed) carry a gun, and he had used his gun twice in the last 4 months

[...]

10) Floor drains in the Garages are used most of the time to urinate (and end up in our oceans), and Garage stairwells, elevators and alleyways are places used to defecate.

11) Almost every male and female he knows in the Garages is currently suffering from some type of STD

12) (Again, in his words..) most of the Safety Ambassadors will ask them to move away from storefronts, then walk away and let them stay for 6 or 7 hours.

Yes, they're in that downtown area. I haven't been to Venice in a long time, but SM is still a mess.

Thanks for posting. It looks like the homeless just shuffled around and moved their tents a block off the beach. I still wouldn’t walk the boardwalk without carrying a weapon. Just another thing ruined in Ca. Just wait till the recession hits and the homeless population skyrockets
