I'm looking at a few jobs at USC and would like to keep my commute under 45 minutes. Any recommendations on where to live that has a good public high school that would keep my commute reasonable?

Thank you!

South Pasadena High school. Cerritos High school. Most places west of the 405 south of LAX to Torrance. Those are all different options that fit your criteria, although the commute won't always be under 45 mins

This is correct, and your basic two choices. South Pasadena and Torrance. Maybe Culver City too, but I'm not so familiar with the public schools there. Maybe Alhambra, San Gabriel, Temple City, and Monterey Park(zoned to Mark keppel HS) also.

If Torrance, being close to the 405(North Torrance, meaning North Torrance HS...the lowest rated Torrance HS though by no means bad) will help ensure a commute under 45 minutes. If its zoned to West, South, or Torrance HS, those schools are higher rated, but you may be looking at as much as a 15 minute drive just to get to the freeway.

Unfortunately most of City of Los Angeles is an absolute wasteland when it comes to public schools, even the nice areas.

Thank you both for the feedback. I had been looking at Torrance and Redondo Beach so this is helpful.

Culver City, if you want to live on Westside is probably better than Torrance. You're best bet overall is South Pasadena.

I used to live in Culver City and work at USC. In the morning it took me about 25 mins. Usually there's not much traffic if I drive local. Some part of the Culver City school district is really good. Some part is so so. You might need to check depending which part of town you live.

The issue with Culver City is going to be rent. In Torrance you can still find 2bd/ba for around $1800-1900 per mo and 3bd/2ba for $2300-2700/mo.

You will be hard presssed to find rents anywhere close to that in Culver City.

Culver City High School is good. You can also catch the Expo Line from Culver City to USC, 25 min ride. Good driving commute too.
