You do realize that the OP was asking for a comparison between LA and NYC and that for NYC he included 7 counties and two states?

I live in Ontario which is 35 miles from downtown LA and very much connected to it. Most of my neighbors work in LA County. We are more connected in my area to LA than to San Bernardino which is 25 miles the other way. Never go there.

Well it's all part of One Large Urban Area aka The Greater L.A Area....People who live in this region can comfortably say they live in L.A since most of the country doesn't know of places like Rancho Cucamonga,Upland,Fontana,Ontario,Riverside,San Bernadino,Ventura,Etc.
