I'd would take my chances with this "typhus outbreak" over anything close to NOVA x10.

The population in LA County was also smaller in the mid-80's but you are probably right that on a per capita basis the current outbreak is a bit bigger.

But let's round up to 200 cases. With a population of over 10.2 million that equates to a rounding error.

200 divided by 10.2 million = 0.0020 percent

"an article recently discovered in the Metro Library Transportation Library and Archive suggests that, even as late as 1954, diesel buses' role in air pollution was not understood."

The big black clouds of stinky smoke coming out the exhaust wasn't a clue, eh??

Really?

LMAO I couldn't imagine a time when all the buses were diesel before the cafe standards smells like a straight disaster.

What a silly thread this is. Back then there was much more opportunity to own a home and thrive. I'm pretty sure it was easier to work in Hollywood or in a Studio support role. My Aunt told me back in the 1980s, after work, should could drive from the Hollywood Hills to Santa Monica in just 15 minutes.
