Thanks Charles and the others who responded. You're on the money about a single guy hoping to be in a place where there's some kind of scene beyond the local Starbucks and Cheesecake Factory.

While living in DC, I worked mostly in Virginia and although it was only 25 miles on a map, it could take anywhere from 45-90 mins to commute at peak times. I probably should have moved to VA and gone to DC on the weekends but I decided on the opposite instead. That usually meant leaving DC at 6:20 AM to go to the gym and shower out near my work, then having to either leave by 4:30 PM or after 7:30 PM to avoid traffic on the way home. Made living in DC during the week seem kind of pointless, particularly when I was paying more for an apartment and the "privilege" of parking in DC.

What about Malibu? From a map it seems relatively close to the Agoura Hills or 1000 Oaks areas. But I've also heard it's tough to get into Hollywood, downtown LA or virtually anywhere from Mailbu. Would living in the western part of LA, like Beverly Hills, make a difference on the commute?

Thanks again.
