I am thinking of moving to LA for easier access to marijuana. I'm not a pothead or anything but would like to be able to light a spliff on a Friday night after a hard week's work.
I'm a computer programmer and live in Reston, VA(30min south of DC). I feel this place is too strict on marijuana and I no longer wish my tax dollars to go towards its prohibition.
I also want to get out of this town because it is very boring, it's the epitome of white collar suburbia.
Would it be a good idea for me to move to California/LA?

And I'm pretty sure you can be fired/denied employment for using it even if it is prescribed.

Right now, the City Attorney is going after these pot stores. I would wait to see how it all shakes out.

They don't give prescriptions to recreational smokers. Unless you can get a traditional doctor to prescribe you with something that would benefit from medicinal cannabis, you're not going to be able to participate.

In LA specifically, they are trying to limit the amount of dispensaries in the area. Most legit dispensaries have stopped accepting new patients months ago so even if you were to move here you kind of missed the "Wild West" era where anything goes. We're about to see some regulation. Some needed, most of it not.

You might want to try another major city in CA or check out one of the many states that allow safe access to patients.

The latest I have heard is that the district attorney is considering having the marajuana for medical purposes processed by ligitemit pharmacies like rite aid, walgreens cvs etc.
He is trying to put a stop to these canabus houses selling it to anyone who can pay for it.
I think having it perscribed by a doctor who must conform to the highest standards of medical practice, as oppossed to some of the quack doctors perscribing it, who are just in it for the bucks, is the way to go.
They write the perscription as they would any perscription, then the patient takes it to a pharmacy to have it filled.
No more walking into one of these hundreds of canabus stores with a fake perscrioption, and getting all you want.
I hope the DA is successful.
Bob.

You need to have a legit reason from a traditional doctor before you can get a state prescription to purchase cannabis at a dispensary.

Where did you get your information from?

If that's your sole reason for moving to CA, check out Humboldt/Eureka/Arcata etc. Good luck finding a job though. How much are you willing to spend on housing?
