i'm going to be very blunt with you: this is how families become homeless.

you cannot afford to live in LA. 2BR apartments in any location where consciencious parents would want their child living will cost $1600-2000/mo. add $500-1000 to the top figure if you want to rent a house. and you can forget about being "by the water." without more money to spend on your most basic necessity-- housing-- your plan to move to LA is just not realistic.

Angry The Socialist State of California

We have a house in Long Beach where my husband lives while working during the week. The problem with Long Beach is that you have a couple of nice areas, like where you're talking about. But you also have this huge swath of crappy area between downtown and the the nice areas.

Also, do you want your tax dollars going toward "diversity training" and the "Office of Human Diginity"? Yes, the city government is using tax dollars to raise the "diginity" of some residents, which is NOT the fuction of government and is theft of tax dollars from hard working people.

Right now the state of California is teetering on bankruptcy, while the idiots (liberals) in Sacramento argue over the state budget. The state Constitution says they must have a budget by a certain day, but every year the budget can't be agreed upon because the liberals who run the state refuse to cut spending on stupid programs that are not needed and certainly not the function of our government. Instead, they whine to the media, who laps it up, that they're going to have to cut school budgets, etc etc. What they should be doing are cutting the programs that are not supposed to be done by the government and are just wasting money. Their latest ploy is to say they're going to cut employees pay down to the federal minimum wage. Now those people are up in arms, the state is closing some DMV offices and making people wait outside in the hot sun. People HATE the Dept. of Motor Vehicles here and making them wait in the heat is a good way to get people to say, "Just pass the damn budget!"

Meanwhile, Sacramento is passing bills to allow Communisum to be taught in schools as a viable form of government by Communists, creating a state "Gay Day" where gays will be exaulted, even in schools, in grades as low as kindergarten, passing a law allowing gay marriage, even though the people, by initiave, passed a law sayng that only marriage between a man and a woman will be valid or recognized in California. The funny thing about that initative is that our state constitution says that anything passed by the people cannot be overturned by the state legislature! But they did it anyway and the court upheld it! What a joke. They're also passing a law that says that employers are not to use the federal e-verify program when hiring people. E-verify is the one tool an employer can use to see if they applicant is really an American Citizen. What else? Assisted suicide and...I'm sure there's more but I can't remember them right now.

And then there's the sanctuary cities, like Los Angeles and San Fran-sicko, where illegals are coddled and not turned over to ICE. Nice. One of the illegals allowed to remain in that city recently killed a father and either one or two sons in cold blood on the street in broad daylight. If that thug had been deported, and not been allowed to stay in the US by the city of San Fran-sicko, those people would still be alive and a mother and wife would not have lost those most precious to her.

Yes, this is California in the 21st century...a haven for sickos and illegals where the citizens have to foot the bill for all sorts of craziness and illegal activities. The Golden State? Not anymore. It's quite tarnished!

I just moved back from Southern Ca and back to Mi and when I moved I came from Mi. I moved back not for finance reasons though. Anyhow you will be shocked at the prices. Everyone told me but I didn't believe. Not only is rent way higher and you get less for your money but also things like groceries, car maintence, etc. I was always amazed at how many hours people work there too because they have to to be able to afford living. I really enjoyed Ca and the only reason I moved back was for other issues and my family is here. I do think many move for the dream so to speak of what it could be. They forget that it can be very stressful if you lack finances and have to work 7 days a week to afford. Just weigh all your options and don't forget about things like what you will do till you start a job, till you find a place(I had to stay in a hotel for awhile and does that add up),etc. Good luck in your choice
