My reception was on a yacht in Marina Del Rey, which was kind of like an outdoor event with the large windows on the boat. It certainly wasn't cheap, but it was very reasonable compared to places like hotels and club houses.

How about a small ceremony on the beach?
Get married in Las Vegas and have an AWESOME reception instead?

I don't know anything about this site (I did a search for "wedding locations in pasadena, ca") but it looked like it had some good ideas on it. Maybe it'll help. Pasadena Wedding Sites Locations, Event Venues Spaces, CA

Best of luck.

Stay safe.

What's the budget? My wife and I started trying to do our wedding on a 5K budget and looked at the park in Altadena. Plenty of free parking and they have a cabin style reception area with an amphitheater type stage right outside where the wedding can take place. We saw a group preparing to do a wedding and they dressed up the place really well with some simple fabrics they bought downtown L.A. The place has really high ceilings and great wooden beams that they hung the fabric from.
They catered it with appetizers from costco and did the cake themselves also with sheet cakes from costco which they shaped into round tiers and then frosted themselves.
We only changed our minds because you can request it only 3 weeks in advance or something like that and even then it's first come first serve.

I got married at the Sportsmans Lodge in Studio City. They have a huge outdoor wedding area with koi ponds, swans, etc. Then, you can have your reception in one of the banquet halls like we did.

Actually, I passed by there the other day and it looked like they were closed.

I went to a wedding at the Los Angeles County Arboretum about 1.5 years ago for my friend's daughter. It is in Arcadia, in the Pasadena area. It was a pretty location with lots of beautiful gardens to take pictures in. Here is a picture of what a reception area can look like:

I checked the website for the rates:
Under 50 people $ 500.00
150 to 200 $1,700.00
50 to 100 $ 900.00
200 to 250 $2,100.00
100 to 150 $1,300.00
250 to 300 $2,500.00

^^^
That doesn't include rentals for tables and food though.
Not sure what the budget is, but it might be a place worth checking out: The Arboretum of Los Angeles County (http://www.arboretum.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=getFeature&catagory=rental&Fe atureID=dcc48ba0-0952-11d6-a271-00d0b76949cb&PageNumber=2&CFID=1743051&CFTOKEN=658 19620&StoryID=80a9c207-5f83-11d6-a274-00d0b76949cb - broken link)
