I currently live in a single apartment in Koreatown (Normandie and 2nd Street) in a dirty neighborhood that is really crowded with lots of Central Americans. Rent is reasonable but I get a really depressing vibe from this area.

I've seen some nice one bedroom apartments for rent in Reseda (not far from Tarzana) that are within my price range in areas with a lot more open space. I know that Reseda isn't the crown jewel of the valley. I realize that unless one is super rich and can afford to live in Bel Air or Malibu then LA isn't going to be a garden paradise. But it seems that the quality of life in Reseda is a lot higher than in Koreatown. Any thoughts?

Typically I would run from Reseda, but my friend lives in a townhouse that is basically on the border of Reseda and Tarzana. It actually wasn't that bad.

I actually like Koreatown, but like you said, see it losing it's charm (like most of LA).

I would go by what is closer to where you look and what activities and hobbies you have. You obviously have better transportation being in KT and have a ton of things right in the area or a subway stop away. However in Reseda, you aren't too far of a drive (assuming you aren't driving in traffic), from pretty much anything. One is more urban vs. a suburb. Matter of preference. I like KT, but if given the choice would pick Reseda.

Where do you work? Have you analyzed the difference in commuting time and hassle?

I actually work in Koreatown (25 minute walk from home) and I feel I spend way too much time in this area. I don't mind commuting to work everyday from the suburbs (it would take the same amount of time to drive to work from the valley as it does for me to walk from Normandie Ave.). I think it would be nice to have a cleaner and quiet area to crash at night.

I would only be at home at nights and some weekends when I'm not traveling.

Sounds like an unnecessarily long commute. Couldn't you find something more to your liking that isn't so far away?
