Question about Burbank area- Early 20's guy and girl (apartments, renter)

Looking to move to Burbank but I'm not too familiar with the area. I know Burbank is safe overall but every city has it's bad spots, so what are the "bad" spots in Burbank?

I've heard Lake steet and Grismer mentioned before. Can anyone tell me what can be expected in these area's? I'd like for my gf to be able to walk around safely in the neighborhood we choose and not have drug deals or shifty things going on at night or cars broken into

Also it seems to be hard to find places listed online for Burbank, is this one of those area's where you need to drive around and look for "for lease signs"?

Those shift and break in things will happen in even the "Good" areas.

But since too many renter know how to use the internet, you'll have more luck finding an old school landlord that doesn't.

In general Burbank is very nice and safe .

I'm thinking the part that borders LA ( north hollywood ) might not be the best but it's still Burbank .

They have their own police so you are not relying in Lapd when something happens

Problem in LA is that the city is huge so when there is crime there is always something more important ( murders etc ) I have experienced this myself .

I think driving around is a good idea since then you can get a feel for the areas ..

Also maybe the ability to get a lower rent than craiglist .

I'm guessing only a fraction of apartments end up on craiglist .

I doubt that happens in Burbank ..I have seen it near my place but I'm not in Burbank ..the Lapd has actually cracked down and I've noticed the problem seems to have gone away ..

On lankershim in north hollywood I would see prostitution constantly ,,,it was pretty obvious
I lived in Hollywood and saw some there , but nothing like lankershim .

Not personally familiar with lake street ..what are the rents there ?

Good to hear. I got off the phone with Burbank PD and they seem to take the stance that Lake street is "lower income" area that is "dense with a lot of apartments". Kinda feels like I was getting a little PR talk though. I think I saw a 2br for $1100 which seems really low to me..

Wow ... $1100 sounds real low for a 2bedroom ..

I think that would be low even in like panorama city or rough parts of north hollywood ..

At that price I would not be surprised if it was some kind of scam or "limited income" type of thing .

Sometimes there are apartments where you need to prove you make under a certain amount to rent it .

Yeah, that would make sense. I ended up driving down lake street and some of the artery streets streets off of it last night, it doesn't look too bad, it's definitely dirtier/unkempt and less nice looking than east of the 5 but I'm not sure if it's a bad neighborhood or not. There were some people out walking around, no bars on windows or security doors that I saw. Some streets off lake are surprisingly narrow

I used to be in Burbank a lot. From what I recall, there's a patch or two that are a little sketchy. One between Victory Blvd (after it bends south) and the 5 fwy; another one maybe up around Bob Hope Airport. But for the most part I'd say Burbank is nice and cheery and safe. Maybe the best thing about it is its proximity to a lot of areas of LA. Pretty easy to get to most places except the beach.
