I have disc herniation on L4/L5 due to car accident......and insurance Doctor is saying that go for "Nucleoplasty" procedure.

I want second opinion. I want to know good neurosurgons in the town. Please let me know if you know any good ones who don't push patients into having a surgery.

i believe the procedure he's referring to is called kyphoplasty. i don't think they are really performed for disc injury, just for compression fractures of the vertebrae. the procedure most commonly performed for disc injury is spinal fusion in which they use screws and bars to keep the disc space in-tact which prevents nerve compression and pain. my advice to you would be to delay any back surgery for as long as physically possible. the recovery from procedures on the spine can be difficult and the procedures themselves have mixed results.

as far as neuro surgeons go, i work with several of them. dr hodes is chief of neurosurgery at u of l and baptist and i respect his skill.
