LuhVull is midwestern / northern............simple as that.

(At some point, I'm going to get the "axe" for "trollage" from Peter, but those are my thoughts.)

Why do your posts in this thread have such an aggressive, taunting tone to them, N. Olikee? What's got your goat? Are you trying to pick a fight? You won't get one from me, though I doubt if we agree about much mentioned here.

Becuse geogrphically its a southern state, it borders indiana; a nothern or midwest state. This goes in to the accent. Compared to the rest of the state; and because bordering other states, Louisville and Newport accents dont have an extremely southern accent. You cant compare it to Louisiana where the french helped develop the accents there. You hafta look back in history. Because the city was a shipping port and its boderline, there is a northern influence that softens our accent. Its a pass thru city, always has been. As far as the name; it was named after king louis the xiii, there for loueeeville is the right way to say it. Lewisville, luhavul and luhval is just pure sawtherin twang.

While that's probably the way it was in the beginning, I believe the right way to say a place name is how the majority of locals say it. That's probably something closer to Lu-uh-vuhl. As a funny coincidence I just happened to see Orlando Bloom and Kirsten Dunst have a similar conversation on tv yesterday in Elizabethtown.

I grew up in Louisville. I say Y'all, aint and yunto. Drink my tea sweet, mint julips during Derby and love me some Nascar. I dont need some yahoo telling me that Louisville is not "southern". I am and always will consider it and myself to be in the south and from the south. If you grew up here and are old enough to remember, the big sign when you crossed the Kennedy bridge that read "Welcome to Louisville, Gateway to the South". Nuff said.
