I'm most likely moving out of Northern Virginia next year (Thank God) and have taken a liking to Louisville. I have a few questions to ask.

1. What is the best bank to work and bank at in Louisville? I'm currently banking and working with Wachovia and i know i gotta kiss that goodbye along with my $11.50/hr wage.
2. Does Louisville have a car tax? I'm paying nearly a $400 tax on a $8800 car this year. Hopefully i wont have to pay a car tax in Louisville or at least get a nice discount.
3. Any good AG/pentacostal/non-denomiational church with a reasonally diverse group? I go to a very diverse chruch in VA now and have really enjoyed it.
4. Does Louisville or KY in general have anything against Virginians? Is there a big population of ex-Virginians there?
5. What places are the best to look for a decent inexpensive apartment? I sorta like Downtown Louisville, but i'll take anything cheap as long as it aint in a war zone.

Thanks in advance.

If you want affordable houses to rent in a safe area, you should check out areas north of Eastern Parkway in the Schnitzelburg and Germantown neighborhoods.

The apartments, look in Old Louisville or the Highlands

there is a car property tax and your $8800 would cost around $130.00 per year. Its a scam but the price for civilized neighborhoods. Rents are cheap for the most part and there are not very many bad places; however I'd recommend the eastern portions of the city.

There is a mga-pentecostal church called Evangel here in Louisville. I am sure they have a website. There is a whole mess of banks here too that hire but I don't know for how much. As far as Virginians, I have never heard anything bad about them. Good luck to you!

Default Car tax?

I'm moving to Louisville in June and have a car worth about $4,000. I take it this isn't a sales tax, but a fee paid yearly "just to own a car." How is it figured?

Thanks!

You will have to pay a transfer fee. Depending on which state you came from it may mean that you will have to pay "some" additional tax. The car will have to be inspected by the Sheriff of the county where you register it in KY.

I would recommend you check the particular county where you are moving to for a website of the local "county court clerk" or "county clerk". In KY, your auto tags are procured at the county clerk's office, and your drivers license will be from the "circuit court clerks" office.

Default Thanks, do you have to pay a 'tax' every year?

I'll be in Jefferson county, probably the Germantown area. (We're looking for a rental.)

It may be a scam but $130 hurts less than $300-something. What is the average rent for South and Downtown Louisville? Any places in those areas i should avoid?

Old Lville is around $500.00, the west side of Lville runs around $300-$600 for pretty nice homes! and the South Side is around $300-$600 for nice apartments. Check out the new developments like "Liberty Green" around the downtown medical campus.
