I'm an academic myself and intellectually curious about anatomy, medicine, genetics and conciousness (to name a few!) on top of it. You can bet I'm an 'engaged' patient, and a woman to boot. So, if you're still looking for that internist, please do share.

Any other recommendations? I find that too many doctors treat women differently than men--and not in a good way. We are different, sure. But I'm talking about the seriousness with which they treat women's complaints as compared to men's.

Default For Hospitals...

For hospitals check out Medicare.gov - Hospital Compare where you can look at quality core measures and patient perception of care scores (HCAHPS). As a previous poster mentioned each hospital has their specialties. And UL has the *only* trauma center in Louisville, so if you have trauma that is where you will go. (UK and Taylor Regional are the only other trauma centers in Ky.)

I don't work for any of these hospitals, but I do work for a pretty large group here in Ky. I can help if you have any facility questions. (And I think you should choose Jewish, but that is for selfish reasons!)

Windwalker, I don't have any names for you, just a general suggestion.

If you're looking for a doctor who will take your symptoms seriously, you might try finding a woman in the field or specialty that fits your needs. A female psychiatrist won't tell you to just stop overthinking things when you're having symptoms of anxiety.

Today, many women doctors are entering fields previously closed to them. By closed, I mean that a woman would be treated poorly enough during training to change fields, or drop out of medicine altogether. Women have had no problem being accepted into ob/gyn, peds, and family medicine programs. But, the surgery specialties were off limits, as were many of the internal medicine specialties like oncology and urology. This is changing.....slowly, but changing nonetheless.

Anyway, it's just a thought.
