I was startled to know that Milwaukee County is 66% and Dane County is 71% liberal. Milwaukee County has a much higher minority population, yet is less liberal than Dane County.

UW, state capitol, high educational attainment, younger average age of populace, fast population growth, and fast growing economy. Basically, the opposite of much of Wisconsin.

Dane County is 1238 square miles surrounded by reality.

Not too hard to figure out: presence of a large university--leading to a highly educated population, plus being the seat of state government usually lead to "liberal" voting patterns. Case in point: Austin, Texas.

While true from one perspective, it is equally challenging that the suits in the white dome continue to spend like the whole state is booming economically. The fact that there is such a limited prosperity seems to be lost on the policy makers.
