Default cycling weather in maine

My wife and I have been talking about moving to the Portland area for years. My main concerns: cold weather in general and decent weather for bicycling. I can ride most days of the year here in Colorado. How much of a hindrance for cycling is the rain and/or cold in the Portland area? thanks for your input

I have never cycled in my life but other than when there is snow and ice on the ground, figure on November thru the end of March in general, you'll be able to ride. I don't think the rain would be anymore on a hindrence in Maine than it is in Colorado.

Because of the higher altitude and the drier air over Colorado, you get much more sublimation of your snow -- i.e., it changes directly from snow to water vapor without melting. Almost like magic -- poof! -- it's gone! Likewise, the rain evaporates much more quickly.

In Maine, there is more partial melting (some days) and refreezing -- day after day. The snow stays around much longer, and the puddles and moisture left after the rain, also.

It would definitely affect your cycling.
