In Camden we pay $1.50 per yellow bag. The bags can be purchased at a few local stores (Hannaford, a few hardware stores). We haul our garbage and recycling to the "transfer station" in Rockport, right next to Camden. We used to have a guy pick up our trash, but he was charging close to $45 a month, so we decided to do it ourselves again.

That's a huge difference!
I have a question. At our local transfer station, it costs us about $40 just to get in. Then they weigh the truck and basically charge by the amount of stuff being dumped. I'm sure if we were just dumping a few weeks of household trash they would just charge us the basic $40 fee.
So, beyond the $1.50 per bag, does the transfer station also charge you to get in the door? (for example, a $40 minimum dump fee?)

I called the numbers on a local dump truck and its only 5.00 for a weekly pick up, and I dont have to separate anything

it does depend where you are.....

Up until last year, the transfer station charged $5 for an annual sticker. They got rid of that fee for some reason. If you have bulk items to get rid of, there are extra fees, depending on the weight of the trash. But if it's just normal household trash, it goes in the yellow bags and there is no fee beyond the price of the bag.

Once or twice a year there is also a drop-off in a different location for electronic items you want to get rid of for free. Hope that helps!
