Food Coupons (Naples, Hope: mortgage, house, to buy)

My DW has always been big on clipping coupons, and conforming her grocery shopping to what coupons she has. Well when we lived in Naples, the Family Service Center has boxes of coupons that were sent from folks statesdie. So the wives could go through them looking for deals

Now that we are stateside we box up food coupons and mail them to Naples.

So:

Got spare food coupons? and want to assist military families in need? Food coupons are honoured and they are still 'good' for an additional 6 months beyond their printed expiration date, at all commissaries over-seas. Send them to:

Thank you for sharing this info, Forest! I never knew they could use them. I can't say how many coupons I throw away monthly that are newly expired.

We have over a hundred military bases around the world.

Many servicemembers have their wives and children living there. One foot in the local economy trying to learn local customs, and one foot American and able to buy food in the base commissary.

Each family's finances are different. During our last tour, we were stuck still having to pay a mortgage back stateside, property taxes and utilities, on a house that refused to be sold. So some families can really use the help that food coupons can give them. 25 cents here and 50 cents there, can really add up when feeding a bunch of children.

Commissaries stock no generics, they only stock the nation-wide name brands of stuff. I think that it is a psychological thing, when you come in from a local open air market with the thick diesel smoke in the air and hanging meats and fish, seeing canned goods with Arabic writing on the cans, etc. To go on base and to see all of the national name brands, kind of feels like a little piece of America. It is kind of comforting for our wives to be able to handle and buy food with English printing and foods that we are familiar with.

Each base has a 'Family Service Center'. I only provided the base in Naples, as that one we are most familiar with. If you specifically wanted to help families stationed at some other base instead, we could do the research to find another base' FSC address also.

Naples has the American highschool, as well as elementary and middle schools. Most bases have the elementary and middle schools; though few bases have a highschool. So families with teens stationed anywhere in Europe or the middle East, those teenagers are usually boarded either in Naples or in Germany so they can attend highschool. So some families in Naples will have teens boarding with them while they attend highschool.

I dont do coupons, I just buy store brands. I did a comparison once and it was cheaper to buy the store brand at a lower cost than to buy the high priced name brand minus the coupon minus all that work.

I love Walmart Great Value. Saves me about $30 per shopping trip.

None of our military bases have Walmarts on them.

And I would imagine that you still get coupons in your mail box.

Oh yeah, I get tons of coupons and other junk mail. I save them for my dad, he uses them to light his wood stove. Hope they never switch to email coupons, cant light a stove with those.

Forest, I will do this--I don't use coupons myself, but I get a lot of them. They are usually for things that I don't buy (read expensive) and it's cheaper to do without, even with the coupon. But now that I'm paying all my bills online, I have this big batch of "forever" stamps. I'll use them to send coupons to Naples--any idea how many stamps that will take?
