19 degrees at my house now with 30 mph gusts from the west. But I over compensated with the wood stove, and had to open the open concept live/din/kitchen to a room I don't normally heat to get the temperature back down for 80 F.

At least its going to rain on Sunday, and so our Church X-mas party will go on as planned, otherwise the cold would give us a major snow storm and cancel it for sure, since most our members are old and won't drive in snow, and none have winter tires either.

YIKES.
Yeah!!! I believe we are as prepared as we can be (within a budget)! Have alternative heat and electrical back-ups in case the electricity goes out - most importantly, to keep the internet and WiFi, running (our major form of communication), extra blankets, warm clothing (even for this climate)!

Thanks for keeping us updated...always enjoy your posts!

Couple maps coming... First......

There it is... Coldest Mid Level Temps on the planet over Maine this morning. A record -32°C at 5000'. Normal is -9C. Record is -24C for todays date.

Curious where this morning fits on the Extreme scale?

Here's a look at the extreme coldest on record for Dec-Jan-Feb.

Have to wait for the official balloon data to come in but this morning may have broken the All time coldest December temp
