So its 6:30am and your neighbor about 500' away is running their snowblower. Would this bother you? What if it was 11pm at night? How far does the sound actually travel?

I imagine they can hear it, but it shouldn't be that loud so far away and thru trees. "Friends" tell me I should wait till 7 or 8am, however they all live in bigger cities in other states; not in the country where everyone has acres of land....

I run mine in the middle of the day, but then I don't have to go to work at 7 am, and some people do.

I wouldn't be complaining. Heck, all this snow is a pain for everybody, we all have to cope.

People have to work, so early morning is going to happen. Some people have medical conditions and want to clear things asap, which my be late at night. When it comes to snow removal noise, I feel that people need to be patient. It is part of living in snowy places.

Snow removal isn't like mowing the lawn. One has to get rid of snow in a more timely manner due to work schedules, avoiding an impending freeze up of wet snow as cold air rushes in behind the storm, especially if it's blocking the car, the front door, and so on. Should I complain when my town plows my side road at 5AM so my neighbors can get to work or emergency vehicles can reach us? The town trucks, pushing 2 blades, can be pretty noisy too. As luck would have it, right as I typed this, the town plow just went by and it's 4:05AM here. (I'm up early!)

Snow removal equipment makes noise and that's the way it is.

This is not something you can schedule like mowing a lawn or running a leaf blower. People need to get out to go to work, live thir lives or save sorebody else's life. In Maine you are going to hear snow blowers and the plow truck at all hours of the night.

(I had not read any prior comments before replying to the OP. it seems we all agree on meeting this basic need in Maine.)

Yup, plow comes down our street all hours of the night too. It is what it is. School buses and work commuters need to get out at an early hour. As for snow blowers, I take it the gasoline ones (I used to have an electric one that was excellent) if you have to get out in the early morning etc, etc, then you have to do what you have to do. I live in a small town, I shovel and I get up early. I don't start hearing the snow blowers till late morning. There again, a lot of people here use plow trucks....

The sound of a snowblower is comforting. It means all is well with neighbors and life is continuing towards spring.

I live in a suburb where the houses are less than 50' apart. I was snowblowing from 10:00 - 11:00 PM last night and from 7:00 - 8:00 AM this morning. I'm pretty sure my neighbors don't mind as I was clearing their driveways too!
