I got engaged in October and we would like to elope to New England in 2009 ,as it is one of our favourite places on earth.

I would be really grateful for any suggestions for wonderful places to Wed, ideally a really pretty village or town which would look stunning in October, with a really good and very special restaurant for a wedding lunch/dinner and Inn to stay in.

I am starting to get ideas from Friends and on the Net but would appreciate as many suggestions as possible.
Thank you for your help.

Early October, for the foliage?

This is where DH & I eloped to. The 4 years ago one of my friends did the same. It's gorgeous!!

The Cod Cove Inn, Edgecomb Maine Welcomes You

I also like the idea of eloping on one of the schooners/windjammers.

Also- The peak of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park at sunrise is pretty spectacular. Well, any time of day, actually.

Inland is Sunday River Resort: Sunday River | Wedding Packages
It boasts the best golf course in the state: Sunday River | Sunday River Golf Club Photo Gallery
Of course if you choose to wed in the month of October, you can carry your new bride in the International Wife Carrying Competition. Oops, don't drop her in the water hazard!

The Artists Covered Bridge is a popular place to say your vows. It is located 2 miles from Sunday River.
