The Maine Snowmobiler's Association has the Interconnect Trail System map available on line. It would probably be the most accurate, since often a trail is diverted around a logging operation if possible and that can happen any time during the winter.

The New England Outdoor Center has a map of trails in their area that would include the Baxter perimeter road, but as has been said, that is not groomed and will knock your back teeth out typically because it becomes so rough. Only 22 miles of trails in the Woods and Waters Monument and all those are East of the East Branch. Most of that is off limits.

Caution: That's a 2012 map. There are HUGE changes since 2012 and many of those trails no longer exist. You will be arrested if you go there.

About 20 years ago there were snowmobilers in Western Maine that rode the old town roads on both sides of the state line. They rode the wind blown hard packed snow that has been thawed and refrozen late in the season. Their informal club was called "The Toppers" because they rode to the mountain tops. Of course this was highly illegal even though they did not damage the environment in any way.Their offense? They did not get permission from the "authorities" who decide where and when you could ride your snowmobile. Some of those snowmobiles had winches on them. Ever see a snowmobile with a winch?

They had log books of the mountains they topped. Incriminating photos were taken to record their nefarious deeds. All the riders had face masks and each one had an old fashioned top hat, proudly worn in the summit photo. Over time, the authorities erected barriers to increase their control and keep the public out of their areas. The Toppers are all elderly now, but those old long track snowmobiles with winches still exist and the grandsons know the stories and have seen the photos. Some day, Mainers and New Hampshiremen will ride to OUR mountain tops again.

There are videos on youtube taken from mtn top views.

With this break in the weather I'm thinking it might be better to hold off buying a sled.
Maybe grab something in the spring if it's cheaper to wait.
