Wow there seem to be alot of political signs this election season! Really... I think too many! It seems every intersection has about 50 or more! If you can't see any from your house then drive a mile and you'll see plenty. Someone stole my neighbor's and my McCain signs last night.....they left the Obama signs alone though!

That's been going on everywhere this season. I haven't had any problem, even with my two term Sussie sign!

I'd like to take a great big political sign down and use it to beat the candidates who keep calling me.

Agreed....I'm thankful for call screening! Even the ones I already donated to won't leave me alone!

I have no problem with the political signs however once the election is over I'd prefer to see them taken down asap. We had a guy running for Selectman in Topsham, he left them up for over 2 weeks after the election. He won that election and I believe is still in office. I called the town office, apparently the candidates have 3 days to take them down. The excuse I was given was this guy didn't have a drivers license. I knew that, he hadn't had one since high school. He had no problem getting someone to drive him around to put up the signs though.

I hate the signs. I mean honestly, do people drive by on the way to the voting booth and make their decision on who they'll vote for based on a sign on the side of the road? I know it's your right to vote, but if that's how you make your decision your right should be taken away. I don't think there should be signs or bumper stickers or campaign ads. I think there should be weekly debates with no finger pointing. I want to hear where you stand on the issues, not you accusing someone else of what they did or didn't do.

And as for those voting differently than I am, I'm fine with it if they know why they're voting the way they are. I've heard more people that not say they're casting their vote because someone else told them that's who they should vote for. Gag!!! If that's the best they can do they need to stay home.

*sigh* I'll just be so glad when this election is over, although to be completely honest I have a very bad feeling my candidate isn't going to win and I"m absolutely terrified for this country for the next 4 years.

I call them the "idiot signs". The people they're good for are the folks who can't remember the names of the candidates on election day, but they remember when they see the names on the ballot that they've seen an awful lot of sign with that name on them. The more signs they have, the better candidate they must be!

We're inundated with them here, too. Add those to the ugly billboards......

Personally, it's not the political signs that bother me. I think it's great to live in a country where we have the right to express or like or dislike of a political candidate without retribution. Many other people around the world do not have that same freedom to do something as simple as that.

However, what gets my goat is the number of them still up after the election. Once the election is over, it's time to celebrate victory, or concede defeat, depending on who wins, and after that, clean up the signs with which you decorated the highways. Why? I believe it is responsible citizenship. Once the election is over, the signs are no longer needed and ought to be cleaned up by whomever placed them.

And remember, regardless of who wins the election, and who we're rooting for, we're all still Americans whether Democrat, Republican or Independent, and we need to stand united as one people, because we're all in the same boat, even if we have disagreements on how it should be sailed.
