Anyone local hearing anything new on this? has there been any construction activity at the site? Does it sound like this is going to happen ? What towns is the proposed site closest to? Locals for or against the project ? Have the owners of the project mentioned anything about making nat gas available as a utility to the vast majority of the area that dosn't have the option now? Thanks for any info

I doubt anyopne will see one of these around heree. Just my opinion. All the outfits seem to be sitting in Limbo on this now. The population seems split on the idea with very vocal thoughts from each camp. I believe that if they do follow through and get approval the Candians will block it in court. Ottawa has already brought it up in Parliment and the Prime Minister has gone on record as saying it won't be allowed. How long do you think Downeast or Quoddy Bay LNG will stick aroound if it goes to court? It's like a Sheakspeare play: "Much Ado About Nothing".

This is all especially so with Irving Oil opening their own terminal near St. John.
Canada has the Sable Island natural gas field. It was supposed to last 20 or more years. It certainly will, but production rates are already falling off. We have a large natural gas pipeline in place that should last a long time. As gas from Canada declines we have the opportunity to provide gas for the system from LNG tankers.
Canada opposes any LNG terminal in Downeast Maine simply because they don't want the competition. Irving has a refinery in Saint John, NB only 50 or so miles east of the border. They want any LNG capacity to be located at their port since it will provide jobs during the construction phase and long term to operate the plant. Any LNG plant has a huge heat sink as the gas is converted from liquid to vapor. That cold can be used to run a giant freezer plant for food. Canada wants those jobs too. It is simple economics. To advance their job creation agenda in Canada, their business tycoons have funded a gang of granola crunching greenies to oppose any LNG in the US. Our news media loves to print reports of their antics.
Meanwhile, jobs leave Washington County. Nobody has ever been harmed by an LNG plant anywhere in the world.

ok, I can see the consensus forming here that this isn't likely to happen. I've been watching these projects as a possible way of punching my ticket for a move to Maine. Has anyone heard of any projects that may happen somewhere along the coast in the future? Maybe a power generating facility ?
There will never be an LNG facility on Passamaquoddy Bay. Unfortunately the developers continue to lead people on that such a facility could happen. Providing people continued false hopes of potential jobs is wrong.
The Canadians, as previously stated, will never let LNG ships pass through Head Harbour Passage. It does not matter whether their reason is economics, the environment or just plain safety, it's just never going to happen.

There has been very small scale testing for power from the tides in Eastport. A project of that type will never happen up here either... NIMBY

The tidal power is probably the most likely to happen without too much greif. But we'll see; I have my doubts there too. But so far no big shakes from the retired/well off artsy folk who hate anything but natural things to look at. Oops, saying too much. Getting wound up.
But it does look promising. They stack like trailers off a semi (minus the wheels) and can be raised up for maintenance. I'd show you the brochure but its copyrighted. I've been edited enough this week.
